Why do you need to put cold water into your coffee maker?

I was advised against using hot water in my coffee maker, but I was never told why. Any connoisseurs have input for me? I do use cold water now but I’d like to know why. Thank you!

I’ve heard that hot water can have more metal in it. Maybe it leaves deposits?

that is mainly in a perk pot. In a perk pot if you use hot water it will fool the thermostat and not perk for the full time. for a drip pot i am not sure why becuse the pot heats the water first.

Cold water is straight from your water supply, hot water has been sitting in your hot water heater for quit a while picking up minerals and rust that can alter the coffee flavor & build up faster in your machine.

I use a Pur water filter to keep the excess impurities to a minimum. You’ll still want to descale your machine regularly to keep it functioning at peak levels. Many machines don’t heat water enough for perfect extraction & mineral build-up will make it worse as well as reduce the life of your machine.

Cold water is always best when food is involved (I run the tap for a few seconds to clear out the pipe) since the same minerals may affect the food’s flavor as well.
